Best Dog Leash For Running: Our 2018 Reviews
This Paw Lifestyles hands-free leash is one of the most popular options for running on the market right now. It’s one of many generic imports coming from China that are practically identical, aside from the logo. We think this is a good way to go if you’re on a very tight budget and can’t afford something from a “real” brand.
While it’s dirt-cheap, the Paw Lifestyles follows the same basic design as more expensive dog leashes for running. It covers all the essentials, with a waist loop, handle, and bungee cord for convenient mobility. You don’t have the extra handles that you see on pricicer options, but you get everything you absolutely need.
It isn’t all that bare-bones, either. It has reflective webbing throughout, fairly sturdy clips, and an extra D-ring for carrying essentials like doggie bags.
This is especially a good value when you consider the fact that it includes an extra smartphone pouch.
There’s no warranty coverage on the Paw Lifestyles, as with all generic imports of its kind. When it breaks, it’s disposable.
You do get what you pay for when it comes to running leashes. The Paw Lifestyles is decent for what it costs, but it’s pretty cheap and tacky overall. Don’t plan on it lasting all that long, or expect it to handle big, assertive breeds. If you can afford something nicer, we recommend spending more money for one of our other picks.
This AmazonBasics dog leash is our midrange recommendation. We suggest it to folks who want to avoid the generic, cheap imports like the Paw Lifestyles without spending more for the Tuff Mutt below.
The biggest difference between this one and the Paw Lifestyles above is that the AmazonBasics adds an extra handle. That gives you even more flexibility when you’re out for a run. Is it essential? Probably not. Will you find yourself using it more than you’d expect? Almost certainly.
It’s more resilient than the Paw Lifestyles, even if it’s not quite as rugged as the Tuff Mutt. The webbing is thicker throughout, and the stitching holds up much better over time. We’ve also found that the bungee is higher-quality.
It’s covered by a 1-year warranty. So, not only ought it to last longer than the generic imports, but it’s guaranteed to!
No smartphone pouch is included with this one. Just use an armband case.
It’s not quite the best thing on the market. Tuff Mutt’s design is better, given the sliding attachment point, and their warranty is better as well.
We recommend this Tuff Mutt leash for any dog owners who run and can afford it. It’s the most rugged we’ve reviewed and has the most well thought-out design overall. As far as we’re concerned, it’s the best dog leash for running on the market today.
It’s rugged. This looks pretty similar to our other recommendations when you’re looking at pictures, but both the webbing material and the stitching are noticeably stronger in real life. You should get at least a few years of use out of one of these.
It’s well-equipped. It has reflective stitching throughout, two different handles (as well as the belt, and rugged buckles/clips.
It comes in lots of color options.
The clip slides along the belt, so your dog can move from side to side without yanking you around or limiting your mobility. That’s a great feature that really does come in handy when you’re out for a run!
It’s covered by a lifetime warranty! That’s practically unheard of with dog gear, so all the more reason to love the fact that one is offered here.
It’s a bit pricier than our other recommendations, though not by much. Aside from the fact that you’ll have to spend a few extra dollars to get one of these, we have no complaints whatsoever. The Tuff Mutt is simply a stellar dog leash for running.
Like the AmazonBasics, the Tuff Mutt doesn’t have a smartphone pouch. Just use an armband–most of us prefer that anyway, especially for adjusting music while you run.
Which of these dog leashes for running should you buy for your animal?
The Paw Lifestyles is the obvious choice if you’re on a tight budget and can’t afford one of our nicer recommendations. It’s by far the least expensive and
The AmazonBasics is a good midrange option, though the difference between our cheapest and priciest recommendations isn’t all that vast to begin with.
We suggest the Tuff Mutt to anyone who can afford it. It’s the best-made of the bunch and well-worth the slightly higher price tag. We absolutely love this thing for running, thanks to the high-quality bungee and sturdy stitching. While we’re always on the hunt for even better dog gear than we currently recommend, this is the best we’ve found in this category to date.
